NTPC is currently looking for motivated and qualified candidates interested in the following position:
Position: Field Hydrologist
Workplace: Powerhouse Office, Sangkeo Village, Gnommalath District, Khammouane Province.

Job Purpose: The Field Hydrologist is responsible for hydro-database management and supporting the operation and maintenance of hydro-meteorological stations and networks. The role involves collecting, validating, storing, and analyzing hydrological data, as well as producing weather forecasts in accordance with established standards and procedures. This position ensures accurate data to support generation planning and flood management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of hydrometeorological telemetry stations to ensure reliable operation.
- Manage and support hydro-database activities, including data collection, validation, storage, and synchronization with the central Hydro-Meteo system.
- Assist in hydrological data analysis and ensure timely and accurate data uploads.
- Conduct water flow measurements using ADCP M9 and support data collection and analysis in Nam Theun and Xe Bang Fai river basins.
- Prepare and maintain field activity reports and hydrological records (daily, weekly, monthly, annual).
- Monitor and manage inventory of hydrometeorological instruments and spare parts.
- Supervise and coordinate contractors and field teams to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.
- Produce daily weather forecasts to support operational planning, flood management, and risk mitigation.
- Support monitoring and management of Xe Bang Fai and Nakai Reservoir hydrological models for optimized water release and flood response.
- Assist in preparing regular hydrological reports and support overall Hydrometeorology team operations.
- Ensure compliance with NTPC policies, Q2HSE standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Hydrometeorology Team Leader.
Competency Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Water Management, Hydrology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in water management or hydrology, preferably in hydropower operations.
- Good knowledge of hydrology, hydro-meteorological systems, and hydropower operations.
- Familiarity with local communities, authorities, and NTPC organizational practices.
- Strong data analysis, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good communication skills in Lao (C2) and English (B2).
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to safety and teamwork.
