ABOUT US

Australian Democracy Network is a young, dynamic campaign organisation dedicated to creating a healthy Australian Democracy that puts people and the planet first. We bring people and organisations together to campaign for the changes that make our democracy more fair, open, transparent and accountable.

We believe that a healthy democracy is the key to better outcomes on all the most important challenges we face, from public health to the climate crisis. We need the collective power of broad, diverse civil society alliances working together to win structural reforms that change the whole system.

ABOUT THE ROLE

At ADN, we believe that digital tools can help us connect people, share stories, and inspire action at scale. This role exists to do just that: to grow and energise our community of supporters, and make sure people-power is at the heart of our campaigns.

As our Digital Engagement Officer, you’ll be a creative engine behind how our campaigns show up online. You’ll help translate bold ideas and timely moments into social media campaigns, digital actions, emails and events that move people – whether it’s sharing a breaking news response, inviting supporters to a webinar, or building energy for a national day of action. You’ll work closely with our campaigns and engagement team to shape messages that cut through, spark interest, and build momentum.

You don’t need to be a policy expert, but you’ll be someone who can grasp the heart of an issue quickly and communicate it in ways that are clear, compelling, and community-minded. You’ll also bring a good sense of how digital channels work together to create a strong supporter experience, from social media to email, to online events and beyond.

Your work will help build a stronger, more connected movement of people who are ready to stand up for democracy. By making our campaigns more accessible, visible and participatory online, you’ll help ADN reach new audiences, deepen engagement with our existing base, and strengthen the collective power we need to win long-term change.

This role is available full time or at 0.8 FTE. We work remotely with shared office space available in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra.

ABOUT YOU

You’re a strong communicator who is committed to building engagement, people power, and creating real change. You may have experience in campaigning, digital communications, or community organising, but more importantly, you understand how digital tools can help mobilise people, shift public conversations, and build lasting movements.

You’ve had a previous role where digital outreach, campaigning, or content creation were key parts of your work. That might be in a not-for-profit, a grassroots group, political office, union, or community organisation. Or you might be a digital specialist looking to move to a different sector where you can align your skills with your values.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in producing and coordinating digital content, such as social media posts, graphics, videos, and emails.
  • Comfortable using digital tools like email platforms, CRMs, social media schedulers and online events tools (like Zoom or Action Network), and willing to learn new ones.
  • Skilled at writing for digital audiences — your content is clear, persuasive and action-oriented.
  • Thoughtful about accessibility, inclusion and supporter experience in the digital space.
  • Organised and able to manage competing tasks, deadlines and priorities.
  • A collaborative team player who’s keen to learn, adapt and share ideas.
  • Motivated by people power and passionate about strengthening democracy.

Above all, you bring curiosity, initiative and a desire to contribute to a growing team making a meaningful impact.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

  • Flexible hours and work styles that fit your life. Our whole team works from home, and we come together once a week in the office for collaboration, connection and planning.
  • $250 per year to spend at your discretion on whatever supports your wellbeing, whether that’s a massage, fitness gear, mindfulness app or something else that helps you recharge.
  • $500 annual tech allowance to help you maintain the tools you need to work comfortably and effectively from home.
  • $500 per year to support your professional growth, use it for courses, conferences, coaching or other learning opportunities.
  • We’ll reimburse 25% of your mobile phone bill to help cover the cost of staying connected while working remotely.
  • Paid end-of-year leave – In addition to your regular leave, we gift three extra paid days off over the end-of-year break so you can rest and reset.
