Background

The Land Information Working Group (LIWG) is an informal thematic sub-working group of the INGO network in Lao PDR. LIWG raises awareness and understanding of the social, economic and environmental impacts of land-related projects, by gathering and disseminating information, facilitating dialogue and carrying out studies. This work supports rural communities toward better management and governance of their land, and natural resources.

For over fifteen years, one of LIWG’s powerful tools for community outreach and legal empowerment is the Legal Calendar. The Legal calendar presents complex laws, regulations, and policies related to land and natural resources in a clear, highly visual, and accessible format.

Objectives of the Assignment

The general objective of this assignment is to translate the core content and legal message of the 2027 Legal Calendar into clear, engaging, and culturally appropriate illustrations and page layouts. The artwork, layout, and visual elements must strengthen the use of the calendar at local level, supporting LIWG members and other stakeholders conducting community outreach and awareness raising.

Main Responsibilities

  • Attend all meetings concerning the creation of illustrations and layout design (total maximum 8 pages) in both wall and desk calendar formats.
  • Develop the outlines of the illustrations, the angles how to illustrate the animation based on calendar topics, and overall planning of each page.
  • Develop draft illustrations in consultation with the Calendar Taskforce/LIWG team.
  • Develop the layout of all elements/contents in legal calendars.
  • Present ideas and suggestions to ensure all graphics are user-friendly, culturally appropriate, and easy to understand for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in graphic design and illustrations.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or other relevant software.
  • Experience in developing illustrations for development projects and partners (CSOs, NPAs, INGOs, or UN organizations).
  • Understanding of branding, layout, and typography principles.
  • Experience in developing teaching illustration graphics, preferably in the natural resources, environment, or agricultural sector.
  • Experience working in Lao PDR.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, and communication skills.
