Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n

The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time – 40 hours). Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager and in close collaboration with members of the TOC Team, the intern will undertake the following tasks: (1) Support the Programme Manager and the TOC Team in the overall implementation and coordination of programme activities; (2) Assist in drafting, editing, and reviewing official correspondence, reports, briefing notes, presentations, meeting minutes, and other programme-related documents, including document translation and contributions to donor reporting; (3) Contribute to programme communication and visibility efforts by drafting success stories, programme summaries, newsletters, social media content, and other outreach materials highlighting programme achievements and impact; (4) Support coordination and communication with national counterparts, government authorities, implementing partners, civil society organizations, and community-based organizations, as appropriate. (5) Assist in the organization of meetings, workshops, training activities, field missions, and other programme events, including logistical and administrative arrangements; (6) Provide administrative and operational support, including document preparation, filing, record management, scheduling, data compilation, and internal coordination; (7) Perform any other duties and tasks as assigned in support of programme objectives and team priorities.<\/p>\n

Qualifications\/special skills<\/p>\n

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent) in international policing, criminology, criminal justice, security studies, international relations, law enforcement studies, or a related field.<\/p>\n

  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;<\/li>\n
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and<\/li>\n
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.<\/li>\n
  • Preferred fields of study: Law, Political Science, International Relations, Criminology, Economics, Security and Development Studies or other related disciplines. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master\u2019s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor\u2019s, Master\u2019s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Ability to design surveys, questionnaires, and basic data collection tools is desirable. Experience in drafting reports, briefing notes, presentations, newsletters, or other written materials is desirable. Experience you have in organizing meetings, workshops, trainings, or events is desirable. Ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Languages<\/p>\n

    Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Fluent in spoken and written in the Lao language is desirable. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.<\/p>\n

    Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work\/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.<\/p>\n
