Project Background

Part of the GREEN Project (2023–2026), funded by AFD and BfW, this consultancy supports climate-resilient value chains in Boun Neua and Phongsaly districts. CCL works closely with COSKA and local authorities to develop sustainable income sources for local farmers.

Consultancy Purpose

To assess the feasibility and market opportunities for the macadamia value chain in northern Laos, with potential for export to China, the EU, and other international markets.

Scope & Responsibilities

• Conduct a value chain study focused on macadamia

• Evaluate consumer, wholesaler, and retailer markets

• Identify 3 priority target markets for Lao macadamia (e.g., Laos, China, EU)

• Assess current producer capacities and expectations

• Recommend strategies to strengthen value chain integration and fair pricing

• Explore organic and fair-trade market potential

• Provide guidance on pricing structure from farm-gate to retail

Expected Outputs

1. Market analysis of raw and processed macadamia (local and international)

2. Prioritization of three export markets

3. Analysis of wholesaler/retailer expectations

4. Inventory of current producers and their support needs
