Position Overview
- Role: National Communications Expert (UNV Expert Category)
- Organization: UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund)
- Location: Vientiane, Lao PDR (UN Premises)
- Duration: 12 months (starts March 2, 2026), full-time
- Focus: Advancing UNFPA’s goals in maternal health, family planning, and ending gender-based violence through strategic advocacy and communication.
Key Responsibilities
The expert will implement the Country Office Advocacy and Communication Strategy by:
- Content Creation: Developing print, digital, and social media materials, including press releases, factsheets, and human-interest stories.
- Media Relations: Coordinating press conferences, report launches, and site visits; maintaining relationships with national and international media.
- Technical Support: Providing graphic design (infographics/social cards) and basic video editing.
- Advocacy: Translating materials (Lao/English) and supporting flagship events and campaigns.
- Monitoring: Tracking the impact and effectiveness of communication activities.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in journalism, public relations, or communications.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Nationality: Must be a national or legal resident of Lao PDR.
- Languages: Native proficiency in Laotian and fluency in English.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, social media management, and basic design tools; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Monthly Living Allowance (VLA): $816.33
- Expertise Differential: $326.53/month
- Entry Lump Sum: $400
- Exit Allowance: ~$68.03 per month served (paid upon completion).
- Insurance: Comprehensive health, life, and malicious acts insurance for the volunteer (plus health coverage for up to 3 dependents).
- Leave: 2.5 days of annual leave per month.
