Phu Bia Mining Limited is a Lao-registered company, 90 per cent owned by PanAust, an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company, with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.

Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off; 9 days on, 5 days off; or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off.

Reporting to the Senior Chemist, the objective of a Lab Technician is to competently perform most sample preparation and analytical tasks as prescribed. As an experienced analytical staff member who performs analytical test-work according to methods, procedures and protocols, the person also assists in the coordination of laboratory activities and the resolution of operational issues within the shift. Work with senior staff to integrate changes & process improvement into the operation and activities of the shift.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Assist in ensuring junior laboratory staff is trained in safety & emergency procedures & protocol.
  • Assist in developing, documenting & maintaining safety policies & procedures.
  • Assist in ensure all site-wide & lab safety policies & protocols are followed.
  • Assist in ensuring facility is operating within environmental policy.
  • Assist in training staff in environmental emergency procedures & protocol.
  • Perform sampling & analysis in accordance with approved methods, procedures & protocols.
  • Maintain all PBM laboratory equipment & instrument to maintain in good order.
  • Understands PBM Laboratory analytical related procedures & protocols..
  • Assist in the Identifying & remedying PBM Laboratory quality related problems & shortcomings.
  • Perform sample preparation & analytical test-work in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain & upkeep of machines, test instruments & other laboratory equipment & glassware.
  • Sample receive and register, assist in the timely reporting of all analytical results & reports.
  • Perform selected aspects of AAS and other laboratory instrument operations as instructed and in accordance with the Phu Bia Gold Project Laboratory Manual.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

 

  • A Higher Diploma in Chemistry, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Fair written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good physical health, a proactive mindset, and a dedicated work ethic.
  • A willingness to work on-site in a diverse, multicultural setting.
