Internship Description

GGGI Lao PDR is seeking a motivated intern with a strong interest in climate mitigation and carbon market development to join the team in Vientiane.

The selected intern will support the Open and Sustainable Carbon Markets project, focusing on the development of a National Carbon Market Strategy for Lao PDR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and provide drafting support for the National Carbon Market Strategy, aligned with national priorities and international practices.

  • Support the development of capacity-building and training materials on carbon market governance and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

  • Monitor and summarize technical inputs from the UNFCCC and other relevant institutions.

  • Research international best practices on registry requirements under Article 6.

  • Coordinate stakeholder meetings, prepare minutes, and circulate them.

  • Organize and archive project documents systematically.

  • Undertake other relevant tasks as assigned.


Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s, or PhD program, or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months).

  • Academic background in a field relevant to GGGI’s work.

  • Excellent command of English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major in Environmental Science, Climate Policy, Economics, or related fields.

  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation, carbon accounting, or market-based instruments.

  • Research experience in carbon markets, Article 6, MRV systems, or emission reduction assessments is an advantage.


Terms and Conditions

  • Duration: 3–6 months. Must begin before or within 12 months of graduation.

  • Stipend: USD $500 per month. Travel, accommodation, insurance, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern unless otherwise supported by a sponsor.

  • Visa: GGGI provides a support letter. Interns arrange and finance their visas.

  • Travel: Self-financed and arranged by the intern.

  • Medical Insurance: Proof of valid coverage required.

  • Confidentiality: Interns must not disclose unpublished information.

  • Academic Credit: May be arranged with the applicant’s institution.

  • Working Hours: Normal office hours. Leave requires prior approval.

  • Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship upon request.
